One of my favorite Zumba® Education Specialists, Tayna Beardsley, used to tell her students, “Unlock your mind, so you can unlock your body.” I LOVE this message because after a crazy day of work, dance is not only what I need to relieve my stress physically, but also mentally give me an hour or more of a break from “the real world” and the “fake virtual world” of emails and social media which seems to be taking over our time.
According to Informate Mobile Intelligence , Americans spend nearly 5 hours a day on their cell phones. That’s 20% of your day! After spending a third of our time awake on our phones, unlocking our mind seems to be an even harder task.
Don’t we all deserve an hour or more unplugged? No cell phones. No hassles. No “life lists”. Just Dance.
One of my all time favorite quotes is:
The greatest gift you can give someone is your time. ~Rick Warren
When we schedule work meetings or time with our loved ones, we would hope to be giving them all of our time and attention. Don’t we deserve the same with the time that we’re giving to ourselves? Our workouts should be looked at like important meetings that we’ve scheduled with ourselves. Therefore, we should be giving ourselves 100% of our attention while in class.
Due to this, we are implementing a new policy at the studio. No cell phones on the dance floor.
*The only people permitted to have cellphones on the dance floor are members of the JDR Media Team.
Thanks for understanding.
