From: Roanoke, VA

How long: 6 months
Where did you go to school?
Cave Spring & B.S. In Marine Biology from UNC-Wilmington
What is your “real” job?
Tell me about your family life.
I am married, my husband & I are both from Roanoke. We moved back to Roanoke in 2011 after moving away for awhile. We always knew we wanted to raise our children here, close to family where we both grew up. I have 2 children ….my little boy, Witt, is 5 & my little girl, Drew, is 2.
If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would you go?
I would LOVE to stay in one of those thatched roof huts with the glass bottom floors that sit over the water in Bora Bora or Tahiti, but I understand that is a 24 hour flight & I’m not sure I could handle all that! I want to go back to Santorini, Greece….my husband & I were married there in 2007. It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen & I’m dying to go back!
What is your favorite TV show?
Dateline, 48 Hours Mystery, 20/20…..anything detective related. Here is what I’ve learned after watching these shows for years….you better think long & hard before you let anyone take a life insurance policy out on you!! Oh & Saturday Night Live makes me laugh out loud. every.single.time.
What is your favorite quote?
“I believe that the level of happiness in your life is directly related to the amount of silliness you allow into it”
“Live with integrity and expect great things”
“The most wasted day of all is that on which we have not laughed”
Do you have any formal dance training?
Two years of ballet when I was in high school. I went thru a phase when I was obsessed with all things French.
What or who inspired you to become an instructor?
Sara did! With just a subtle suggestion…. Sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement from someone else to help you step out in confidence!
If you could take dance lessons in any style, what style would you choose?
I would LOVE to learn how to break dance!! Like old school break dancing circa 1982. I’ve also always wanted to be a part of a step team. I saw my first step show when I was in college & loved it!
Who are your dance & fitness role models and inspiration?
I find inspiration in people at every level of fitness….the ones who have been exercising for years…you know there have been some cold mornings, some stressful days when it would have been easier just to go home after work, etc. but you can derive inspiration from those people, in their dedication, their perseverance & all the benefits they’ve reaped in their years of working out. But the ones who are just starting out…they inspire me too. Maybe even more than the lifers! It takes GUTS to say to yourself enough is enough. It’s time for a change. And then step out of your comfort zone & do something about it. I know. I’ve been there. Its a scary place, but so, so worth it in the end!!!
What does being an instructor mean to you?
It means getting to be a part of something that I & so many other people love. It means doing something I NEVER, in 100 years, would have dreamed I could accomplish. It means I have the opportunity to keep growing, keep learning, keep pushing myself while helping other people do the same!
