JDR Spotlight is a series where we get introduce you to some of our JDR Junkies. This gives you the chance to see the variety of participants we have at Just Dance Roanoke and allows you to get to know your dancing BFF’s a little better.
Meet Anabel! If you’ve ever been to the studio on a Saturday, chances are good that Anabel has been the smiling face to check you into class! She has taken over 500 classes and shares her love of dance with her sister (and JDR Instructor), Letty. We are so lucky to have this sweet soul as such an active member and supporter of Just Dance Roanoke. Congratulations on 500 classes, Anabel! We’ll be here to dance you through the next 500, too!
Who or what brought you to your first class at JDR?
I attended my first class with Sara and her crew at a gym location where they used to teach. Letty (my sis) talked me into taking my first class. She was hooked after only a week of taking classes with them. I’ve never liked going to the gym or doing a lot of exercise. Everything feels so boring to me. After my first class, I fell in love with the classes. The music, the instructors and the energy was and has always been amazing!
What is your favorite JDR event you’ve attended?
It was the first Party in Pink event held on Franklin Rd in downtown Roanoke. When I arrived, I saw the stage and all the people that wanted to be a part of an amazing cause. When the music started to beep, it made me feel empowered. Needless to say that the class was amazing and the show put on by the instructors was unforgettable. Everyone dressed as a special singer or dancer. I had the best time of my life that day.
Favorite piece of JDR swag you own?
My hoodie and tank that say “This is my happy hour”. It sure is. Every time I step into the studio, I forget everything else for an hour. It’s my “me” time and I really enjoy every single minute of each class.
Favorite outfit to twerk-out in?
Leggings, nice pair of tennis shoes, and any of my JDR gear. I feel cool every time I wear it.
Favorite song/genre to dance to in class?
I think almost everyone knows that my favorite song is “Bailando” and I guess the Latin blood that runs through my veins makes me love all the Latin songs. I love to dance and sing to most of them.
Anything else you’d like the JDR family to know about you?
I am a home stay mother of three kids. I love them with all my heart but also I love/need to make time for me and even though JDR doesn’t offer childcare, I’ve found a way to take my classes. To me it totally applies “if you want to do something you’ll find a way, if you don’t, you’ll find an excuse”. Don’t look for excuses, people. Take your first class at JDR, you won’t regret it, I promise.
