My friend Toya has a theory, no song is a bad song if it says “Don’t Stop, Get It, Get It!”, and I have to agree. These lyrics are something that really resonate with me this time of the year. It’s been two months since the disco ball dropped over time square and you made the commitment to “Rock Your Resolution”.
How are those goals coming along? Are you in need of a Resolution Re-set? Or maybe a resolution re-evaluation? Here are some tips to keep you going, get you started, or turn it up a notch!
Involve Your Squad.
Most things in life are better with friends, especially parties. And that’s exactly how we want our classes to feel, like a dance party with all your friends there, minus the alcohol and grinding and groping men. It just so happens that you’re also working out! Grab a friend and set your schedule together. Which leads me to the next tip!
This fall we rolled out the Just Dance Roanoke App in both the iPhone and Google Play store. In this app, you can purchase and schedule classes. Pre-planning when you’re going to be at the studio will help you stay accountable to your commitments to yourself.
Break it Down.
A lot of us start of the New Year with a long list of goals that we want to attain. In January you wanted to eat healthier, drink more water, take more classes and sleep more. Then snow storm came and the studio was closed a few days, you jumped off the healthy eating train and onto the Red Velvet Oreo Express (maybe that was just me). Sometimes it’s hard to get back into the groove when you have 500 different goals on your plate. Start small, and break down those goals.
Break your goals down into smaller, more attainable and manageable goals, then reward yourself when you make them! Example: March get your booty back into class on the reg. April add in drinking more water. (Chances are high that the additional classes will aide in the more water goal). May start meal planning and food prepping. You get the point!
Upgrade Your Gear.
Make your mini goal? This is a great non-food related way to reward yourself! Plus, when you feel good about what you have on, there’s a strong chance that you’ll be more pumped to come to class and you’ll work harder. At least I do. We’ve got new gear at the studio rolling in almost monthly these days. Insider tip: a lot of our favorite leggings can be found at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. (We totally dig the 90 Degrees brand.)
Are the girls in need of a lock and load upgrade for class? We highly recommend going to Fleet Feet for their bra fittings. They have a great selection of Enel bras and more!
Mix It Up.
Taking the same classes, from the same instructor week after week is great for routine, but it never hurts to mix things up a bit.
Try adding Burn Blast before or after your workout, or check out a weekend class with a different instructor or format than your normal go to (ie- if you go to Just Dance, try adding a Zumba or After Dark class into the mix). They may have a different mix of songs in their playlist that remind your body of parts it may have forgotten!
We also have a small amount of spots available for the Just Sweat Bootcamp on Saturday mornings at 8a. Check it out with Kelly and her crew. They’re really rocking it and having a great time in the process.
Take a Rest Day.
Some days you need to dance. Other days, you need to “Netflix and Chill”. If you’re struggling to make it though class without needing a break or being able to give it your all, there’s a chance your body needs a rest. Doubling up on classes, multiple times throughout the week, may be hindering your goals and progress. Make sure to schedule at least one rest day into your workout routine.
Don’t Wait Until Monday.
If I had a dollar for every time someone told me that they were waiting until Monday to start their new workout routine, diet, quit doing item, you name it, I’d be rich. Don’t wait until Monday. Start now. Start today. Grab your squad, grab your app, schedule classes and get your booty under the disco ball today!
All of your instructors at Just Dance Roanoke are here to support you while you “Rock Your Resolution” and reach your fitness and health goals. It’s not just about what you do in January, but what you do each and every day, all year long!
